Roadtrip through the German & Austrian Alps

Any road trip lovers here?

I love road trips so much! It's definitely my favorite way of traveling. The freedom and spontaneity are just ♥. We had three days to explore the beauty of the German and Austrian Alps right behind the border. All these places are so close to our home, yet look like another world, incredible.

We started on Monday from our hometown and after spending more than an hour in the terrible Prague traffic we were on our way to the fairytale Neuschwanstein castle in Bavaria. Yes, it's a very popular spot, that gets really crowded, but some places are worth visiting even though "everyone" is going there. I don't see a reason not to go somewhere just because it's a cliché or it's crowded. This place looks exactly as amazing as in all the pics and it has its magic. Also worth mentioning is the river and the small waterfall under the bridge, the colors are incredible and you can make drone pics without really having a drone.
Our next destination was Eibsee, we got there before the sunset and it wasn't as amazing as we expected, even though there were super cute ducks. We hoped the weather and light conditions would get better in the morning and we really hoped for a nice reflection.
We were sleeping in the car and it took us a while to find a quiet and hidden place but after half an hour driving circles in the area around Eibsee we found something, yes!

In the morning Eibsee was amazing, we walked around the whole lake, had breakfast with an incredible view and met more cute ducks. Here is a pic taken in the evening and another one taken in the morning after, both unedited. Light and weather really do a lot.

Our next stop was Berchtesgarden. By the way, how did people travel without GPS? We don't really have a good sense of orientation and we did get lost several times even with the help of the kind lady from google maps, if we were driving just with a map (or just by folowing th signs, which I can't even imagine) I think we would still be somewhere lost in the Alps.
Königsee looks like an incredible fjord in Norway! It's just completely breathtaking, we went to a viewpoint called Rabenwand, and we were the only ones there. How?
Thanks to Instagram we found a description of how to get to this hidden waterfall, the article said: "It's a 30 minutes walk, easy to go, my girlfriend went there in flipflops." In reality, the path was extremely uneasy, slippy and it seemed neverending. Can't imagine going there with flipflops, but okay.  Such an amazing amazing place, I can't put into words how amazing it is. Too bad it was too cold to take a bath in the clear water.

In the second night, we slept on a nice place right next to train tracks. It was near a little town or even a village, so we thought that there can't go so many trains. Nope. The whole night trains were passing by, such a peaceful night.
The Gollinger waterfall opened at 9 o'clock, but the man at the entrance let us in twenty minutes earlier. That was so cool because we were the only ones there and the waterfall was way bigger than we expected it to be. Nice surprise, loud and wet surprise haha. Take a raincoat with you. It doesn't just look good in the pics, it's really useful and necessary.
Our next and last stop was the Austrian insta cliché Hallstatt, where we wanted to get by hitchhiking in November. Back then it didn't work out so we felt happy finally getting there. When we parked in the ridiculously expensive parking lot it was raining pretty heavily, so we took our raining coats, umbrellas and got out of the warm car.
Here's another example of the importance of good light when taking a pic. Hallstatt is nice to walk through, but it's really super touristic and I feel a bit sorry for the people that actually live there. I'm sure there are other Austrian villages that are as pretty as Hallstatt just not that crowded.
For fuel, parking and postcards we paid about 150 Euros, so each of us about 75 Euros, which is not bad for such an amazing three-day adventure is it? (We didn't buy any food on the way, because we took enough with us, I was really proud of us that we didn't buy any fast food or that "amazing" gas station food)

  3. To je nádhera!
